ART RESTORATION
Art restoration can have a dramatic effect on the appearance of a painting. Cleaning a painting alone will potentially reveal an original color palette that has been hidden for decades or centuries.
There are many factors that cause an oil or acrylic painting to need restoration. Yellow staining is often caused by the build up of second hand cigarette smoke. Cracking or peeling in the varnish or paint can be a result of dry storage conditions, or simply the test of time. Mold or mildew is usually a result of basement or wet storage conditions.
Whatever the cause of these factors, there is almost always a solution to remediate them, or at least prevent further damage to the painting. We have specialists who are able to restore acrylic or oil paintings on either canvas or board. The restoration process varies greatly depending on the problem and the medium. If the surface of the painting is dirty, it can simply be cleaned and varnished. If the painting has additional damage, such as missing paint, a degree of inpainting may be necessary. Additionally, if the canvas has a tear or is brittle, the painting may need relining - a process where a piece of canvas is laid behind the original canvas and adhered with a bonding medium, such as wax. Please see the incredible results we have achieved with some of the restoration projects that we have worked on to the right.
